Excise teams near Centaur Mall in Islamabad are removing vehicle number plates, claiming they are not genuine and issuing fines of Rs. 10,000/-. They insist that only number plates issued by the Excise Office are permissible.
However, the plates being removed are identical to those issued by the Excise Office, differing only in material. The officials warn that if a vehicle is found using such plates again instead of the official ones, the next fine will be Rs. 50,000/-.
In neighboring Punjab Province, it is permissible to use number plates that match the design or sample issued by the Excise Office.
Are there two different laws in Pakistan? One for the federal area and another for Punjab Province?
This action by the Islamabad Excise Team is very disheartening.
